I am a Winchester-based luthier specialising in handcrafted banjos and early instruments. I trained in early stringed instrument making at West Dean College, and I combine traditional techniques with a thoughtful, hands-on approach.
Whether you're after a historical replica or something a little more bespoke, I work with you to create an instrument that's truly your own.

Process
I believe an instrument should feel as good to play as it sounds. My approach is rooted in flowing lines and ergonomic, utilitarian design - form and function working together. The way an instrument sits in your hands, the balance of its weight, and the comfort of its curves are just as important as its tone. As a player myself, I carry this perspective into every piece I create.
From 1993 to 1996, I studied early instrument making at West Dean College in West Sussex. During three years of full-time training, I specialised in lute and early guitar making, working with traditional methods and materials. That foundation in craftsmanship continues to shape my process today, blending respect for historical techniques with a sensitivity to the needs of modern musicians.
I occasionally have items in stock but mainly work on a commission basis - contact me below to find out more.
